Hungarian car theft gang arrested
As the Hungarian news portal Index describes, investigators successfully terminated the case of the Hungarian car theft gang – consisting of one woman and two men – who unlawfully expropriated 7 lorries, 19 cars and 2 boats whose overall value exceeded 237 million HUF. Police forces found ammunition at the fourth member of the delinquent band.
Between April 2015 and March 2017, the thiefs acquired vehicles involved in criminal activities from different EU countries, primarily from Spain. After falsifying their unique identification marks, by using false documents, they sold them in other EU countries, mainly in Hungary. The cars were hired from Spanish rent-a-car companies under false name; but were never taken back.
On 1st January 2017, the Police identified the first stolen car, a red Ferrari in Budapest. A few days later, detectives arrested the tenant of the garage at whom 20 pieces 9mm ammunition was found. Next day, investigators arrested the second member of the delinquent band who provided the falsified car registration numbers. In December 2018, the female member of the criminal group gave herself up.
Investigations were carried out in several warehouses; the stolen cars were finally found and seized by the Police.
1 motorcycle, 7 lorries, 19 cars and 2 boats were stolen by the perpetrators, causing a damage of more than 237 million HUF that was refunded by the seizure of vehicles.Â
Budapest Police Headquarters completed the necessary procedural steps; mandatory documents have been handed over to the competent prosecutor’s office.
